Mike Truesdale, Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale Hubbell. His practice focuses primarily on error identification in the trial court in complex civil litigation and prosecuting and defending cases on appeal. Mike has worked on numerous cases before the Texas Supreme Court and has handled appeals in nearly all Texas intermediate appellate courts. He has also led appeals in other states’ courts and in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Seventh, and Federal Circuits and has authored briefs before the United States Supreme Court. He has named a Rising Star in Appellate Law in 2004-2007, and a Texas Super Lawyer for over ten consecutive years.

Mike served as an adjunct university professor teaching and coaching debate and has authored a number of articles on the art of appellate advocacy and the process of appellate review. His work includes chapters in the ABA Press series "A Practitioner’s Guide.” Mike’s recent appellate advocacy has resulted in opinions discussing the proper procedures for obtaining summary judgment settings, the viability of post-confirmation challenges to arbitration awards, and the extent of governmental immunity available to a municipality engaging in proprietary contracts.

Active in the legal community, Mike was recently appointed to the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline, and has served as the Chair of the Texas State Bar Appellate Section and of the Austin Bar Association Civil Appellate Section. Since 2011, Mike has served as the Liaison to the Texas Supreme Court Pro Bono Pilot Briefing Program, and has worked with appellate courts across the state and country to expand access to legal services for pro se litigants. Mike serves the civic community as well. He has served as a director for Reading is Fundamental, a mentor through Austin Partners in Education Austin, a scout leader and a soccer coach, and a parent volunteer with area high school debaters. Mike is an enthusiastic (but not very fast) long-distance cyclist and a die-hard rugby fan.
